FRYING IN OUR OWN OIL
My grandfather would say ‘it is very important to fry in your own oil’ which is to say, be self-sufficient and to sustain oneself. When I was a child this meant living off the land where we grew and raised our own food, churned our own butter and sold wine made from our own grapes. It was true sustainable living, where respect for our environment, our tools, and the hard work that put food on the table was crucial to our survival and prosperity. Today, we continue to ‘fry in our own oil’: we have no outside investors and remain an independent, family-owned business. Care and respect for our employees, our materials and our customers, are at the heart of our business - after all, we know that they are crucial to our survival and prosperity.
We know that our team is our greatest asset. We employ skilful craftsmen and women (in fact we are a majority female company) who make all of our products by hand with the utmost care and attention to detail. We know that we must look after our greatest asset; this is why our staff receive competitive salaries, benefits, training, and why we partner with educational institutions for the betterment of each employee. Many of our artisans who started with us at our inception 20 years ago remain with us today as part of the Neri Karra family – this is truly our proudest claim.
Beautiful leather of the highest grade, all of our hides are fully traceable, from where the animal was reared, to how it was treated in life. We only use leather that is a by-product of the food industry and our suppliers hold gold accreditation for the sourcing of our leather. We believe that this respect for our materials is evident in the quality of our bags and accessories. Traceability is not new to us; we have always done this and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
We use the highest quality Italian leather, sourcing our materials from the same suppliers as many of the world’s leading luxury brands, such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Gucci. We believe in investing in our staff, in our tools and workshops, and not compromising on the quality and care you should expect from a high-end brand.
Our pricing reflects these standards and nothing more. We sell beautiful, classic pieces that are to be cherished for decades to come and as such offer true value. This is why we provide full transparency of our prices and markups – we have nothing to hide.
OUR SOCIAL CONSCIENCE
As a young girl, a refugee, who once stood at the Turkish border with uncertainty for the future, I know first-hand the transformative power of a good education. Education expanded my world, and receiving a scholarship to university was the key I needed to unlock my potential. This is why the education of children and refugees are causes close to my heart, and why we support Save the Children and UNHRC, donating 10% of our profits each year, so that all children, regardless of their circumstances, have a chance to realise their potential.
We have also built and made donations for the development of schools and cultural initiatives here in Bulgaria – giving back to the community of which we are a part.
