The journey begins in our studio, near Florence, a region famed for its tradition and high standard of leather making. The design process alone can take up to 6 months from conception to sample production, to create an item of style and quality. The approved design is then shared with our craftsmen and women in Istanbul. This is where the bags come to life. Trained for 10 years or more, each of our artisans are experts of their craft ensuring a well constructed and beautifully finished item. 

The materials we use are chosen for their quality and durability. Starting with the selection of our leather, each hide is scrutinised by our master craftsmen, whose eyes are trained to detect even the smallest of flaws, each time following the same ritual: touching, examining and marking any imperfections found on the leather. Next is the assembly, where only the highest quality German and Italian rounded tools are used to respect the integrity of the leather and produce a precision cut. Our lining, made exclusively for Neri Karra in Lago di Como, is applied and treated with the same care and attention as the exterior, for a quality finish inside and out. The handles of each bag are saddle stitched by hand, a signature of the Neri Karra brand and a traditional technique stronger than any machine stitching.

The last stage of the build is the application of our metal accessories, all of which are designed and made in-house, from initial sketch to hand-finishing each piece. Treated as pieces of jewellery, all of our metal accessories are meticulously polished by hand and coated in palladium, a metal more precious than gold and known for its lightness and durability.

Before leaving the workshop, each bag is methodically approved, checked, cleaned and protected, ensuring that every detail is perfect. It is the expert hands and eyes of our artisans that care for each stage of our bags’ production; from the examination of the leather, to the delicate finishes and details applied. We are incredibly proud of the quality of our bags and accessories, each one a reflection of our passion, skill and care.
